Honesty and accuracy
- Does ABright make things up?
It is built not to. Notes, reviews and answers are grounded in your own course materials and carry quotes from them; code checks every quote against the source before you see it, and whatever cannot be supported is dropped. When ABright has nothing to go on, it says so. Like any AI it can still misread a word or weigh a point wrongly, which is why it shows you the words it relied on.
- Where do the lessons come from?
From your course: the syllabus, slides, excerpts, class transcripts and notes you upload. Each source is marked with where it came from, and Ask AI cites what it used. ABright does not teach from a textbook it has not been given.
- What does my mastery score mean?
An estimate, from 0 to 100, of how well you know a concept, built from your checks, practice, retention checks, teach-backs and graded work, with how uncertain it is shown alongside. It decays when a concept goes untouched, because memory does. It is not a grade and it is not shared with your school.
Classes, recordings and video
- Can I use a video of my lecture?
Yes. Choose the video file in Add a class. Its sound is taken out on your own device and transcribed in five-minute parts; the video is never uploaded, and the picture never leaves your device. Only the transcript is kept, as it would be for a caption file. The same goes for an audio recording of any length.
- Am I allowed to record my class?
That depends on your school and your teacher, and ABright asks you to confirm before it reads a transcript, recording or video: that your school provides it, or that the class was recorded with the teacher's permission. Check your school's policy. Your own notes need no confirmation.
- What files does Add a class take?
Caption files (.vtt, .srt), text (.txt, .md), Word (.docx) and PDF up to 25 MB; audio (.mp3, .m4a, .wav, .webm) and video (.mp4, .mov, .m4v, .webm, .mkv) of any size up to four hours; or text you paste.
- The class page says no concept from the course's map was covered. Why?
Either the class really did not touch the concepts in the map, or the course had no map yet when the class was added: the map is built from the syllabus, so upload that first when you can. The notes themselves are unaffected.
Assignments and academic integrity
- Will ABright write my essay?
No. On an assignment it tells you what is missing, unclear or off the rubric, with quotes from your draft, and leaves the writing to you. The one exception, Help me reword this, takes one short passage of your own writing at a time, says so each time, adds nothing of its own, and is visible to anyone you have invited into your account.
- Can I upload a graded exam with the answer key on it?
Yes, and it is handled with care: a graded paper is used only to analyse your mistakes. It is never read into the course's teaching material, so an answer key cannot leak into lessons or practice.
Privacy and your data
- Who can see my data?
You, and anyone you invite into your account as a parent, guardian or teacher, who see progress and plans but not your Ask AI conversations. Each account is its own data island. There are no ads and nothing is sold. The privacy policy lists which providers process what.
- Can I take my data with me, or delete it?
Both, from Settings. Export my data gives you everything as files. Delete this account removes it, and the privacy policy says what is kept and for how long after that.
- Is ABright for teenagers?
Not yet. ABright is for students aged 18 and over; sign-up asks before anything else is stored. Accounts for younger students, with a verified parent or guardian, are planned but not open.
Plans and AI allowance
- What does it cost?
There is a Free plan, and paid plans, Premium and Unlimited, with larger AI allowances. Settings, under Plan and AI use, shows the plans open to your account and their prices.
- What is the AI allowance?
Each plan allows a certain amount of AI work a day and a month, counted by what it costs to run. Reading a PDF, writing class notes, a lesson, a review: each counts. Settings shows today's and this month's use. When the allowance is used up, ABright says so and resets at midnight UTC (daily) or on the 1st (monthly). Plain-text files, flashcard reviews and the planner do not use AI.
- Which schools are supported?
Any. Santa Monica College, De Anza College and UC Berkeley have their course catalogs built in, so adding a class is a few keystrokes; at any other school you type the course details in and get the same tools.
Help
- A file could not be read. What now?
The file's line on the course page says why. A photo that is too dark, a PDF that is only images, or a recording with no speech are the common reasons. Fix the file and use Read again, or upload a better copy.
- Where do I ask something not covered here?
The guides walk through each part of the app. For anything else, write to the address in the footer.
