1. Introduction

ABright AI (“ABright,” “we,” “us”) is a product of MAXY Investment Inc., a Texas corporation. We operate abrightai.com and the ABright app (the “Service”), an AI study companion that learns how you learn. This policy explains what we collect, why, who receives it, and what you can do about it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads.

2. Information we collect

  • Your account: your email address and password (the password is stored only as a secure hash), your name, your timezone, and your answer that you are 18 or older.
  • What you add: courses, syllabi and course materials, photos or PDFs of graded exams, assignment prompts, rubrics and drafts, class transcripts and notes, and audio recordings of classes.
  • How you learn: your answers to checks and practice, how confident you said you were, estimated mastery of each concept, flashcard reviews, mock exams, teach-backs, study plans, goals and deadlines, rewards, and your Ask AI conversations.
  • People you invite: the email address of a parent, guardian or educator you invite, and their role on your account.
  • Billing, on a paid plan: Stripe collects your card details. We receive your plan, its status and renewal dates, and Stripe's reference for you as a customer, never your card number.
  • Usage and security: how many AI requests your account makes each day (for daily limits), an audit log of account events such as creating the account, accepting an invitation and exporting your data, and the technical logs our hosting provider keeps, such as IP addresses and browser type.

3. How we use it

  • To run the Service: build your courses, teach and check concepts, plan your study, and answer your questions.
  • To personalise it: what has worked for you shapes how ABright teaches you next.
  • To keep it safe and affordable: daily AI limits, rate limits, abuse prevention and the audit log.
  • To contact you about your account, such as sign-in emails and changes to these policies.

4. AI processing

ABright's AI features send the content needed for each request to the AI providers below. We send only what a feature needs, such as the passage of your course material a question is about, not your whole account.

  • Anthropic (Claude) reads your materials, exams and drafts, writes lessons and practice, and answers Ask AI.
  • OpenAI turns course text into search vectors so ABright can find the right passage, and turns class audio into text. Once a recording has been transcribed, ABright deletes it.

Under their commercial API terms, these providers do not use the data we send them to train their models. They may keep it for a limited period, typically up to 30 days, for safety and abuse monitoring.

AI output can be wrong. Mastery and readiness are estimates of your demonstrated understanding, not official grades.

5. Who else sees it

  • People you invite. A parent, guardian or educator you invite sees your progress, plans and results. Your Ask AI conversations stay private to you. You can remove anyone you invited from Settings.
  • Your calendar feed. If you turn on the calendar feed, anyone with its link can read your deadlines and study plan. You can reset the link or turn the feed off at any time.
  • Calendar links you import. When you import deadlines from a calendar link, ABright reads the calendar once to find the dates and does not keep the link.
  • Classes you share. When you add a class at a school ABright lists and leave “Share” on, its term, course code, name, professor and textbook join a list other ABright students can pick from. Your name, your account and anything you upload are never part of it. Picking a shared class and saving it unchanged, or reporting it as wrong, adds one to that class’s count; who confirmed or reported it is never shown.
  • Learning with your classmates. If you take a course at a school ABright lists, how well each way of teaching worked for you is combined with other students in that course, at least 20 at a time, to choose first lessons for new students. No one sees your answers, grades or work, or who took part. You can turn this off in Settings.
  • Teaching experiments, only if you agree. If you turn on “Take part in teaching experiments” in Settings, your first lesson on a concept ABright is comparing may use one of two ways of teaching, picked at random, and how well you remembered it is compared across all the students given each way. No one sees your answers, grades or work. It is off until you turn it on; when you turn it off, your results leave the comparison. Accounts of people under 18 are never included.
  • Service providers that run the Service for us: Supabase (database, file storage and sign-in), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (payments for paid plans), and the AI providers in section 4. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
  • When the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a person or the Service, and to a successor if the business is sold, under this policy.

ABright is used by students directly. It is not operated on behalf of a school, and what you add is not shared with your school unless you invite someone from it.

6. Cookies

ABright uses only the cookies it needs to work: one that keeps you signed in and one that remembers which account you have open. There are no advertising or analytics trackers.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Download everything: Settings → Export my data gives you a copy of your account, including links to your uploaded files.
  • Delete your account: Settings → Delete this account removes your files and every record of your learning, including its history and audit log.
  • Correct things: you can edit your name, courses, materials and plans in the app, or ask us.

Depending on where you live (for example California, or the European Economic Area), you may have further rights to know, access, correct or delete your information, and to object to some uses of it. Write to us at contact@closebossai.com and we will answer within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

8. How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account exists. Class recordings are deleted once they are transcribed. When you delete your account, its records and files are removed at once. Copies may remain in our providers' routine backups for a limited time until those backups are replaced.

9. Security

Connections are encrypted. Each account's data is separated by access rules enforced in the database, and links that grant access, such as invitations and calendar feeds, are stored only in hashed form. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe your account has been compromised, change your password and contact us.

10. Age

ABright is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
