About ABright AI

Your AI team for learning, achievement and the future: what that means in practice, and the rules it keeps.

What ABright is

ABright AI is a study companion for college students. You give it your courses: the syllabus, the slides, your class transcripts, your graded exams. It reads them, works out the concepts each course is really about, and then does the things a good tutor does: teaches a concept the way that works for you, checks that it landed, keeps what you learned from fading, plans your week around your deadlines, and tells you what to do next.

It is not a chatbot you ask questions into a void. Everything it says is grounded in your own course materials, and it shows its sources: a key point from a class comes with the words the teacher used, a claim about a document comes with the quote it rests on. When it cannot find support in your materials, it says so instead of making something up.

Who it is for

Students aged 18 and over, at college or university. ABright started with three California schools, Santa Monica College, De Anza College and UC Berkeley, whose course catalogs are built in so that adding a class takes a few keystrokes. A student at any other school can add their courses by hand and gets the same tools.

A parent or guardian, or a teacher, can be invited into a student's account to see how it is going: progress, the week's report, today's plan. They do not see the student's conversations with the AI. That is the student's.

How it learns the way you learn

The same concept can be taught several ways: with a picture, with an example first, as a story, step by step, through practice, or by having you explain it back. ABright tries one, checks your understanding with three short items and asks how confident you felt, and then comes back days later to see what stuck. Every one of those moments is recorded as evidence about you, that concept and that way of teaching.

Over time it learns which approaches work for you, concept by concept, and leads with those. When a concept is not landing, “Teach it another way” is one press away. Your mastery of each concept is an estimate built from this evidence, with its uncertainty shown, never a grade pulled from the air.

What it does, in one list

  • Courses. Upload a syllabus and ABright builds the course's concept map, with what depends on what.
  • Learn and practice. Lessons in the mode that suits you, checks, practice sets, flashcards on a spaced schedule, retention checks, and timed mock exams.
  • Classes. A transcript, a recording or a video of a class becomes notes: key points in the class's own words, the concepts it covered, new terms, announcements and what to ask about.
  • Graded work. Upload a graded quiz or exam and ABright reads it, asks you to confirm anything uncertain, classifies each mistake and gives you a recovery plan.
  • Assignments. Your draft is checked against the prompt and the rubric. ABright coaches; it never writes the work for you.
  • Planner. Deadlines from the syllabus or your calendar, a two-week plan, today's mission, and an honest replan when you fall behind.
  • Progress. Weak areas with reasons, confidence against results, a weekly report, and StudyPoints and achievements that say what earned them.
  • Ask AI. A tutor that answers from your course materials and cites them.

The rules it keeps

Nothing invented. Notes, reviews and answers carry quotes from your own materials, and code checks every quote before you see it. What cannot be supported is left out, and the app says when that happened.

Coaching, not ghost-writing. On an assignment, ABright tells you what is missing, unclear or off the rubric. It does not draft paragraphs. The one exception, rewording a short passage of your own writing, is explicit, limited and visible to anyone you have invited into your account.

Your data is yours. Each student's account is its own island. There are no ads and nothing is sold. A video of a class never leaves your device: only its sound is transcribed, and only the text is kept. You can export everything or delete the account from Settings at any time. The details are in our privacy policy.
